H’aiagal’ath Grizzly Bear Tours is a sustainable ecotourism operation that respects the bears and their habitat. We are gathering scientifically robust baseline data to monitor potential impacts of our tour operations on bears. We monitor the bears using non-invasive research techniques including remote cameras and barbed wire on trees to collect hair for DNA sampling. This research allows our biologist to monitor bear trends (using DNA), physiological stress (using cortisol concentrations), and the ratio of salmon to plants in the bears’ diet (using Carbon and Nitrogen stable isotopes).
