GENERAL MANAGER — SHAWN O’CONNOR

Shawn O’Connor has a background in fisheries and business management. He worked through the 1980s and 1990s as General Manager of Marine Operations for British Columbia Packers Limited (BCP) until it was sold in 2001. Shawn then joined We Wai Kai Nation, where he provided business services, wrote economic development plans, supported fundraising and oversaw project spending. Projects included work for Tsa Kwa Luten Lodge, Quinsam Crossing Development, Quinsam Shell Service Station, We Wai Kai Campground, Quinsam Hotel and the Nuyumbalees Society. Shawn also served as Chief Executive Officer of the We Wai Kai Seafood Corporation until December 2014.

In 2010, the Elected Chief of Homalco Nation asked Shawn to reorganize and manage Homalco Wildlife Tours Inc., which provides grizzly bear tours within Homalco Nation Territory and on reserve lands in Orford Bay, Bute Inlet. Following the successful implementation of a detailed business plan, his duties expanded to include Homalco’s economic development, fisheries and the Homalco – Tegares Orford Salmon Hatchery. Shawn served as General Manager of Homalco Wildlife Tours Inc. until 2017. He provided business services for the Homalco Forestry Limited Partnership and the Homalco Nation’s power and energy portfolio.

Shawn resides on Quadra Island. He served 2006-2016 as board member of the Quadra Island Harbour Authority, where he served 2009-2014 as Treasurer supporting funding applications for the Heriot Bay Wharf and Marina Redevelopment Project.
