Tour Host and Guide — H’aiagal’ath Alexander Chartrand
H’aiagal’ath Alexander Bruce Chartrand is your tour host and guide. He is the owner and operator of H’aiagal’ath Grizzly Bear Tours. Alexander is from the Ugvalas family, one of four core W’ui’kinuxv families. His mother was Hilda Thompson who was born on Quasawa, an island at the mouth of the Waanukv (river). She was the daughter of Maggie Bernard and Albert Thompson. Alexander's father, Joseph Harvey Chartrand, was Métis and born in Le Pas, Manitoba. During a family potlatch, Alexander was given the Hereditary Chief in Standing name H’aiagal’ath, which means eternal. Alexander is the father of four children: Alex Chartrand, Jr., Rima Chartrand, Kyle Zungway Flett and Tawepesim Chartrand. In 2000, Alexander experienced a vision that solidified his journey to look after the W’ui’kinuxv people. Since then, he has held a position on the W’ui’kinuxv Treaty negotiation team. He is currently W’ui’kinuxv Chief Negotiator and Treaty Manager. Committed to protecting W’ui’kinuxv culture and Territory while ensuring adherence to W’ui’kinuxv protocols, Alexander founded H’aiagal’ath Grizzly Bear Tours in April 2020. He lives on the bank of the Waanukv in W’ui’kinuxv Village.
