Ethnobotanist — Hannah Maia Roessler

Hannah Maia Roessler is a professional agrologist and ethnobotanist with a passion for plants and a deep commitment to food sovereignty issues. She works as an independent contractor and consults on various food and medicinal plant projects, collaborative eco-cultural revitalization initiatives, urban community gardens and small-acre permaculture designs. As a lecturer in the Environmental Studies Department at the University of Victoria, Hannah has taught Ethnobotany, Ethnoecology and Permaculture Design. She specializes in community-led research and development projects and has co-developed ethnobotany, ethnoecology and food security curricula with BC First Nation. Hannah delivers ethnobotanical field training and supports knowledge sharing on the use of local botanicals as medicines, food, spices and tools for all H’aiagal’ath Grizzly Bear Tours tour guides.
