Indigenous and Conservation Programs Specialist — Dr. Tanya Wahbe
Dr. Tanya Wahbe is a conservation ecologist who has contributed to biodiversity conservation and Indigenous community-based health initiatives since the mid-1990s. Working with the largest Canadian land trust, she negotiated, secured and managed conservation areas and projects in Haida Gwaii, the West Chilcotin, Clayoquot Sound, the Central Coast and the Salish Sea and grew her passion for advancing Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs). She is currently an Adjunct Professor in the UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems and Scientific Director at Impact Resolutions, where she enjoys diverse projects applying scientific, Indigenous and local knowledge. Tanya is committed to working with Indigenous Peoples to develop conservation initiatives and sustainable conservation-based economies. As a Lebanese woman deeply rooted in the Shouf Muwahideen culture, Tanya feels honoured to stand beside H’aiagal’ath and support conservation and cultural revitalization in W’ui’kinuxv Territory.
